Parhthan’s motifs come from contemporary society. In his multi-layered renditions, spiritual emblems reverberate against the more mundane manifestations of commodity culture. They probe the nebulous relation between profane and sacred, appearance and reality.
Born in Kerala, Baiju Parthan studied painting at the Goa College of Art and received a Postgraduate Diploma in Comparative Mythology at the University of Mumbai. Parthan has held several successful shows in India, China, Germany and the U.K. He has also participated in major group exhibitions such as the lX Asian Biennale in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Parthan lives and works in Mumbai.
